You can create a BORCOOK account with your email address or sign in with Google or Apple. Google and Apple sign-in do not require a separate BORCOOK password.
Create a secure password containing an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and at least one special character (!, @ or _). Enter it again and accept the required consents. This step does not apply to Google or Apple registration.
After signing in, you can add a smoker or a compatible GrillDirect thermometer.
Pairing links the smoker to your BORCOOK account and connects it to your Wi-Fi network.
If your phone uses a VPN, temporarily turn it off before pairing. You can turn it back on after setup is complete and the smoker is connected to Wi-Fi.
Connect the smoker to power and switch on the control panel using the main switch. Wait for the panel to finish starting up.

Press the button on the back of the control panel. The blue Wi-Fi indicator will flash to show the panel is ready for setup. If the panel is already connected to a network, the Wi-Fi indicator stays lit.

Open BORCOOK, go to the Smoker tab and select + Add or + Add device.

On the “Add device” screen, select Borniak smoker. GrillDirect / GrillEye MAX has a separate setup process.

After you select “Borniak smoker”, the app will ask how you want to connect to the device.

Choose this option if you also want to control the device over the internet.
During setup, the smoker will connect to your Wi-Fi network and be linked to your BORCOOK account.
Choose this option to use the device locally without a cloud connection. Your phone connects directly to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the smoker panel.
The connection has limited range, so keep your phone near the device.
For most users, cloud setup is recommended because it enables network features and remote access to the device.
Offline mode / direct connection is recommended when the device is too far from the router or outside the range of the local Wi-Fi network.
Android: select the detected smoker from the list and confirm.
iOS: you may need to use the card supplied with the panel or scan the QR code on the control panel.

Press and hold the control knob for about 5 seconds. A numeric code will appear on the display. Enter it in BORCOOK and confirm.

Select your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and enter its password. You can optionally save this network’s details in the app, so you can use them again during a future setup.

if you want to use them again.
Next connection
BORCOOK may suggest the saved network and password.
For security, the password is shown masked.
Select the correct device model from the list and confirm.

When setup is complete, the smoker will appear under “My Smokers”. Open its device panel to start controlling it.

Use the panel to check the device status, connection, temperatures, active operating mode and smoker settings.

The “Add” button lets you add a new smoker or a compatible GrillDirect thermometer to the app.
The Wi-Fi icon indicates a direct connection between your phone and a device on the same local network. Control takes place locally through the router.
The cloud icon indicates a connection to the device over the internet. This lets you monitor and control the device even when you are away from your home Wi-Fi network.
If internet access is unavailable, BORCOOK can communicate directly with a compatible device through the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the device. This is a local connection with limited range, so keep your phone near the device.
Open the device menu by selecting the icon ⋮ next to the smoker.

You can enable a reminder in the smoker menu to refill the wood chips in the smoke generator.
The set time counts down only while the smoke generator is running. Time when the generator is stopped is not included.
If a new software version is available for the smoker, the update icon will appear in the app. Select it to start the controller update.
During the update, the panel display will show UPdt.
When the update is complete, the panel will restart automatically. Once reconnected, the device will be ready for further control in the BORCOOK app.

The smoke generator and dryer cannot run at the same time. Turning one on automatically turns the other off.

Reset the connection after changing your router or Wi-Fi password, or when needed.
Press and hold the control knob until the connection code appears on the display.
Press and hold the smoke generator button; dots will appear on the display.
When the dots disappear, release the button. The device will generate a new code.
The current network connection will be disconnected and forgotten.
Pair the device again in the app using the new code.
A program consists of a sequence of steps. Each step can have its own temperature, time, probe settings, smoke generator and dryer settings, and required actions.
Adds an action for the user to perform during the program, such as adding meat, removing food or replacing the dryer with the smoke generator.
Turn heating on or off and set the target temperature.
Enable probe monitoring and set the target temperature. The probe target cannot be higher than the heating temperature.
Turn the smoke generator on or off.
Turn the dryer on or off. The smoke generator and dryer cannot run at the same time. cannot run at the same time.
Sets the duration of the step. When set to ∞, the step will not end automatically, unless an active probe reaches its target temperature.
You can enable a Required action in a program step to prompt the user to perform a specific task.
When the program pauses at a step that requires user action, the control panel displays ACt. After completing the required task, press the control knob to confirm it and move to the next step.
If a time is also set for the required action, the program can move to the next step automatically when it expires, even if the action is not confirmed with the control knob.
Set the target food temperature for each active probe.
If Probe 1 and Probe 2 must reach 65°C, create two consecutive steps with identical settings:
This way, when the first probe reaches its target, the program advances to the next step and continues waiting until the second probe also reaches 65°C.
Three icons are available next to each program step to help manage the step list:
In the Program tab, select ⋮ in the upper-right corner, to open additional options for the entire program.
While a program is running, you can temporarily pause it or stop the process completely.
You cannot edit program steps directly while a program is running. To change the program structure or a step’s parameters, first pause the program and then stop it.
If the program is running and you try to change a parameter directly on the control panel, the first attempt will display the PrG message.
This message indicates that the device is currently running a program. After it appears, select or press the function again to change its setting. You can then modify a parameter in the current step.
This change applies only while the program is running. It does not change the saved program definition or other steps.
To make a permanent change, pause and stop the program, then edit the relevant step in the app.
You can save a program created in the Program tab of a smoker to your BORCOOK account and quickly load it again later.
To save a program, first create its steps in the tab Program for the selected smoker, then select Save program.
You can later load the saved program from either the smoker menu in the device list or directly from the Program tab menu for the selected smoker.
Open the active device panel and go to the Program.
Add and configure all the required program steps. Set the temperature, time, probes, smoke generator, dryer and any required actions.
Select the icon ⋮ in the upper-right corner and select Save program.
Enter a recognisable program name and select Save.
You can load a saved program in two ways.
On the My Smokers screen, open the menu ⋮ next to the selected device and select Load a saved program.
Open the selected smoker, go to the Program, select the icon ⋮ and select Load a saved program.
After selecting Load a saved program, you will see the programs available in your account.
A Custom Program is a program that was previously run on the smoker but was not saved by the user as a custom program.
BORCOOK keeps these programs so you can quickly return to settings you have used before without having to recreate every step.
The number of available Custom Program entries depends on your BORCOOK plan and the number of programs saved by the user.
Select a program from the list to load its steps onto the chosen smoker.
Example BORCOOK program setups for drying, maintaining temperature, using two probes and cold smoking.
First, dry the food using the dryer. When drying is complete, the program moves to a required action step so you have time to physically replace the dryer with the smoke generator. Smoking begins only after you confirm the action or the step condition is met.
| Step | Time | Temp. | Probe 1 | Probe 2 | Smoke | Dryer | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ∞ | 40 °C | 25 °C | — | OFF | ON | — |
| 2 | ∞ | OFF | — | — | OFF | OFF | Replace dryer / generator |
| 3 | ∞ | 80 °C | 65 °C | — | ON | OFF | — |
The first step brings the food to its target temperature. Once the probe reaches that temperature, the program moves to the next step and maintains a lower chamber temperature, keeping the food warm without continued intense heating.
| Step | Time | Temp. | Probe | Smoke | Dryer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ∞ | 120 °C | 65 °C | ON | OFF |
| 2 | ∞ | 50 °C | OFF | OFF | OFF |
This setup runs the process until both probes reach their target temperatures.
| Step | Time | Temp. | Probe 1 | Probe 2 | Smoke | Dryer | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ∞ | 120 °C | 65 °C | 70 °C | ON | OFF | — |
| 2 | ∞ | 120 °C | 65 °C | 70 °C | ON | OFF | Remove the meat |
Plan: two 6-hour smoking sessions with a 12-hour break.
| Step | Time | Temp. | Probe 1 | Probe 2 | Smoke | Dryer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | ON | OFF |
| 2 | 12 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | OFF | OFF |
| 3 | 6 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | ON | OFF |
Five-day plan: smoke for 2 hours each day, followed by a 22-hour break. Create 10 alternating steps: 2 h with smoke ON and 22 h with smoke OFF.
The program has 10 steps, alternating over 5 days:
Repeat this pair of steps five times.
| Step | Time | Temp. | Probe 1 | Probe 2 | Smoke | Dryer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | ON | OFF |
| 2 | 22 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | OFF | OFF |
| 3 | 2 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | ON | OFF |
| 4 | 22 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | OFF | OFF |
| 5 | 2 h | OFF | OFF | OFF | ON | OFF |
